Jessie Leigh Romigh

Over 30 years ago, I stepped away from my artistic talent. Teenagers always think they know best and know what is going to matter in their world. We learn as we age that our teenage sel are often wrong. So here I am, middle aged and so much more content with my life, re-entering a world of creativity.

A member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), I am currently working on authoring and illustrating my first series of Picture Books. The series is based on our Scottish Terrier Rosie and her adventures with her Stuffed Triceratops, Sara, as well as a variety of friends and critters she meets in along the way.

A bit more about me...

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Jessie grew up with a love of reading, drawing, and making up stories. Playing "pretend" was always a favorite pastime which could range from playing house, school, fashion show, building forts, or 'wilderness survival'.

After graduating with a degree in Communication from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, Jessie worked in a variety of careers ranging from Customer Service and Inside Sales to Arts Administration.

Currently, Jessie lives in Georgetown, Texas (which is outside of Austin) with her husband Lance and their Scottish Terrier, Rosie. In addition to her writing and art, Jessie enjoys gardening, reading, cooking, and having adventures with her family.

Let's Get Personal

Favorite Children's Books when a Child

I loved Paddington, Babar, Winnie the Pooh, and Madeline when I was a little girl. As soon as I could read chapter books, I fell in love with anything that Roald Dahl wrote. As a lover of mysteries, I also loved Encyclopedia Brown and Trixie Belden.

Author/Illustrator Influences

Lorna Balian

A.A. Milne

Roald Dahl

Mo Willems

Favorite Movies

Amadeus

The Goonies

Young Frankenstein

Under the Tuscan Sun

Fears

I have been afraid of birds since I was about 9 years old. I enjoy seeing song birds in the backyard... and enjoy including them in my illustrations. But a bird gets close up or swoops, I freak out. I also have a phobia of blood and needles.

Favorite Place

Growing up, it was Rock Island, Wisconsin. These days I find that my favorite places are always more about the company I keep. A place is always great if I am surrounded by family and close friends... and of course, Rosie the Scottie!

Favorite Color

Blue, and sometimes Green.
